Comprehensive considerations for the selection of plasma bag materials

The material selection of plasma bags needs to comprehensively consider biocompatibility, chemical stability, physical properties and safety. The following is a specific analysis: 1. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) Features: Medical polyvinyl chloride is a thermoplastic resin polymerized by vinyl chloride under the action of an initiator. Its products are slightly yellow, transparent and soft, but gradually harden at low temperatures. Long-term use will age and become brittle and yellow, accompanied by the "frosting" phenomenon of plasticizer migration to the surface. PVC has certain anti-coagulant and flexibility, and is mainly used as blood transfusion, infusion bags, extracorporeal circulation device catheters and other products that come into short-term contact with the human body.
Application: Plasma bags are usually made of medical soft polyvinyl chloride materials and may contain plasticizers such as di(2-ethyl)hexyl phthalate (DEHP) to increase the flexibility and durability of the material.

2. Polyethylene (PE)

Features: Medical polyethylene is a plastic obtained by polymerization of ethylene. It has excellent mechanical strength and biocompatibility, is non-toxic, easy to color, has good chemical stability, is cold-resistant, radiation-resistant, and has good electrical insulation. It is suitable for packaging materials for food and medicine, making tableware, medical devices, etc.
Application: In plasma bags, polyethylene may be used to make certain components, such as protective caps, because of its good biocompatibility and chemical stability.

3. Polypropylene (PP)

Features: Medical polypropylene is a plastic obtained by polymerization of propylene. It can withstand high-pressure steam sterilization and has good mechanical properties, chemical stability, and physiological degradability.
Application: Although the direct application of polypropylene in plasma bags may not be as extensive as PVC and PE, its excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability make it a potential material choice in certain specific application scenarios.
