The impact of high-frequency welding on blood bag material compatibility and the suitability analysis of materials such as PVC and TPU are as follows:

I. High-Frequency Welding Technology Principles and Suitability for Blood Bag Manufacturing

High-frequency welding (also known as dielectric welding or radio frequency welding) uses a high-frequency alternating electric field to polarize polar plastic molecules and generate heat through friction, achieving internal fusion bonding. Its core advantages are:

1. Heating from the inside out: Avoids the overheating problem of the outer surface in traditional hot plate welding or hot gas welding, especially suitable for heat-sensitive materials such as PVC.

2. High welding speed: Suitable for large-scale blood bag production. High weld strength: Meets the pressure testing requirements of blood bags.

3. Automation compatibility: Can be integrated with modules such as laser marking and automatic feeding, improving production efficiency.

II. High-Frequency Welding Suitability for PVC Materials

1. Advantages

Physical property matching: PVC film has high transparency, facilitating observation of blood condition. It is soft and foldable, suitable for frozen storage and transportation. It is resistant to high-temperature sterilization (such as ethylene oxide sterilization and gamma ray sterilization).

Mature Welding Technology: High-frequency welding is the mainstream technology for PVC blood bags. Welding parameters (such as power, time, and pressure) can be precisely controlled by servo motors to ensure weld consistency. Equipped with roll edge control and process monitoring systems, the defect rate is extremely low.

2. Challenges

Material Stability: The dielectric loss factor of PVC may increase with rising temperature, leading to localized overheating that requires power tuning optimization. Long-term use may release plasticizers, necessitating the selection of medical-grade PVC to meet biocompatibility standards.

Environmental Dependence: Welding quality is affected by ambient temperature and humidity, requiring operation in a dry, dust-free environment.

III. High-Frequency Welding Compatibility of TPU Material

1. Advantages

Superior Material Performance: TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) has good elasticity and puncture resistance, suitable for blood bags requiring frequent compression. Excellent biocompatibility, meeting medical standards such as ISO 10993. High-temperature pressing does not produce toxic gases, aligning with green manufacturing trends.

Welding feasibility: TPU is a polar material that can achieve a strong connection through high-frequency welding, with weld strength approaching that of the base material. This makes it suitable for inflatable products (such as medical air cushions), indirectly demonstrating its potential application in blood bags.
